All Day Trey’s New Single, “Don’t Worry ‘Bout Us” is a Straight Shot of Dopamine

Over the past three years, a conglomerate of young artists has emerged from Seattle’s eclectic music scene, slowly dominating with their self-aware and socially conscious brand of hip-hop. As the group’s self-proclaimed “Sunshine Rapper,” All Day Trey has set out to shine a light on issues that have traditionally been shunned by the genre.

Since starting his career in Spokane, Trey has used his music as a platform to advocate for mental health. That mission is still very much at the forefront with his new single “Don’t Worry ‘Bout Us,” a song built around the mantra, “It’s okay not to be okay.”  The track opens with Trey’s signature bright and easy beat, accompanied by an iridescent guitar hook. Trey’s mellow cadence lightly glides through each verse while his deep tone sets listeners at ease. It’s obvious Trey’s move to Seattle has done him good. The production on “Don’t Worry ‘Bout Us,” as well as the collaboration with fellow Seattle artist Oblé Reed elevate this track to a whole new level. Reed’s unassumingly sincere delivery showcases his keen writing skills in a way that doesn’t overpower the song. While Reed is arguably the powerhouse of Seattle’s independent hip-hop scene, no one is outshone here; this song is a true partnership. When rapping, “I’m not okay, but yeah, I’m fine with that,” Trey releases a shot of dopamine straight into listeners’ ears. It’s like a warm hug of acknowledgment. Maybe All Day Trey isn’t okay, and maybe we’re not okay, but together we’ll push through and find a way to be okay with that. “Don’t Worry ‘Bout Us” is out now.
