Tips on How To Stop Porch Pirates
It’s unfortunate, but in today’s day and age it doesn’t even seem like news when someone has their package stolen from their porch. Amazon deliveries are becoming more and more normal all around the Treasure Valley and the world, and its created the term, “Porch Pirates.”
The Definition is simple really. A porch pirate is someone who casually walks on your porch, takes your package, and enjoys the rest of their day. Pretty sad, right? What’s even crazier, is the more doorbell cam footage I watch of porch pirates, the more casual and non-sneaky the criminals look! It’s a simple stroll to your front door, thank you for the free stuff, and I’ll be on my way.
So here’s the deal, there really is no easy way to PREVENT packages from being stolen (unless you say goodbye to getting anything shipped to your house), but I did find some helpful tips as good reminders to hopefully make these theft opportunities less frequent. Here are some top tips to help prevent packages from being stolen, according to Google.
Track your package.
Install a doorbell camera or a large porch security camera.
Sign up for Key by Amazon.
Consider getting a BoxLock.
Solicit help from your neighbor.
Request to have packages delivered elsewhere
These seem like simple and easy tips and they really are but sometimes they are forgotten. Being aware of all of these different options should hopefully help stop the “Porch Pirate” problem from happening.
