A song that was released this week in 1966 that became an instant classic rock and roll hit and was widely acclaimed as one of the finest and most important song of the rock era. Written by Beach Boys Brian Wilson and Mike Love that topped the music charts in several different countries.
When the song was finished in the recording studio, it broke records as the most expensive single ever recorded. It was pieced together with many short musical segments from the group as well as other studio musicians using four different recording studios, and over 90 hours of recording tape. In today’s dollars, the total bill would come in around $400,000.
Awarded the Grammy that year and was instrumental for the psychedelic and progressive rock sound, as well as becoming another of the band’s signature songs.
