A KOOL Day for Music
The Knack
My Sharona
When the band’s guitarist, Doug Fieger, met a girl named Sharona Alperin in a clothing store, he immediately became enamored and began a four year relationship.
In an interview, he said that when they met “it was like getting hit in the head with a baseball bat which sparked something inside and went on a two month songwriting session where he finished the song in about 15 minutes.”
If you have a copy of the single version in your 45 stack, the sleeve picture is Sharona posing holding The Knack’s debut album.
Feiger and Alperin never married but were engaged at one point and remained great friends until his death in 2010. Alperin became a successful Los Angeles realtor
In 1982, during The Thriller recording sessions, Quincy Jones aspired to write a ‘My Sharona-like’ rock and roll song for Michael Jackson which became his hit song called ‘Beat It.’
