A KOOL Day for Music

Some songs seem to write themselves, taking only a few minutes putting pen to paper. Some songs take a little longer. In 1981 a song was released that was shelved for four years became a rock and roll classic.

Rolling Stones

Start Me Up

Song got it’s start during the song writing sessions for the 1978 album ‘Some Girls' as a reggae-rock track called ‘Never Stop’, but after dozens of failed attempts to get the song recorded with The Rolling Stones feel, it was abandoned and was not chosen for the album.

The Rolling Stones style during the recording sessions was not to work out a new song, they were famous for jamming in the studio until they felt like they had something they liked and they recorded everything.

Four years later, the band was looking to tour and their sound engineer was looking through the archives and found two tracks that had more of a rock vibe. Chris Kimsey convinced Mick Jagger to use the shelved song.

Recording overdubs for the new track took 6 hours to complete and became a Top 10 hit single internationally and is often used as the opening song for their live concerts.
