Nampa Police Officer Gives Breakfast Instead Of Ticket

Nobody likes to see those flashing lights in their rear-view mirror and for Sarah in Nampa, it seemed like the worst day possible. But one kind officer at the Nampa Police Department made a judgment call that will forever change the way one little boy and one mom will look at those men and women wearing a badge.

Sarah, like a lot of us, struggles through life. Bills to pay, kids to feed, a car, a home, work, etc, etc. One morning she was caught in the middle of it all and her little boy Noah asked if they could go to Shari’s Restaurant to eat. He LOVES the Mac N’ Cheese.

We’ve all been in this spot. We want to take care of our kids, even spoil our kids a little but when the money’s NOT there. It’s just not there. So Sarah had a heart-to-heart with her son Noah explaining how life works and that we can’t always do the things we want to do. While Kim was emersed in a great conversation about life and money with her son she suddenly saw it. Those bright red and blue lights twisting and flashing and YES, they were right behind her.

I don’t know about you but every time I see that I get a mini heart attack. It doesn’t matter if I’m doing something wrong or not. It’s just NOT a good feeling.

The officer was a nice-looking gentleman who simply asked Sarah how her day was going. Sarah lost it. Sometimes it’s just too hard to keep it all in even though you know you’re supposed to.

Sarah told the officer about some of her struggles and about the conversation she and her son Noah were having as he pulled her over. The officer simply smiled, told her to wait there a minute, and went back to his vehicle. As Sarah sat there trying to figure out how much this was going to cost and how she would pay for it, she was quickly approached by the officer again. But what happened next was nothing she expected.

When Officer Martin Reidy came back, he offered Noah a “Junior Police Officer” sticker. Then he handed Sarah’s papers back to her and inside was a bit of cash. Just enough for Sarah to take Noah to Shari’s Restaurant. Officer Reidy said that’s specifically for Noah to get the best Mac N’ Cheese he’s ever had.

Since then Sarah and Noah have visited the Nampa Police Department to thank them for not just upholding the law. But for caring. They swapped stories, laughed, and even snapped a few pictures together.

Thank you Officer Reidy. Thank you for TRULY taking care of our city and our people. The love and compassion you throw into your work is touching more lives than you’ll ever know and all of us are so grateful. God Bless You!
