Idaho is currently at a 10 year low for blood donations but that’s definitely NOT because of 80-year-old Judy Lucks of Mountain Home, Idaho who has now officially donated more than 50 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross.

There are many reasons Idaho and the rest of the country are currently going through a drought when it comes to blood donations. We’ve all been going through a lot this past couple of years with COVID but one thing seems to be forgotten. All of those issues we had before COVID that make blood donations so crucial STILL EXSIST! They didn’t just go away.

Judy started donating in 1983 when a friend of hers talked her into donating at a Mountain Home church that was holding a Blood Drive. After that… she was hooked. She enjoys talking with the good people of the American Red Cross, the other donors, and most of all… she enjoys giving in the hopes of saving someone’s life.

KTVB reports that Judy Lacks donated her 50th gallon of blood on Jan. 20, five days after her 80th birthday. Here’s what Judy had to say…

Everybody was smiling, being happy and telling me, ‘Way to go!’ and that’s why I sent them a card and signed. I couldn’t have done it without [them]. I couldn’t have. They’re just family to me, all of them.

I just hope and pray that people will get out and start donating even if you’ve never done it before, it’s not a big deal to do it.

I’m going to continue to donate. I’m already scheduled for the third of February and two weeks later and when I go to Arizona I will be donating again down there.
