Logan Lynn Teams Up with Yellow Trash Can To Turn Big Pop into Big Emotions On Distracted

Late last year, Logan Lynn left Portland, Oregon in a move no one, not even Lynn himself, anticipated. After spending 25 years weaving himself into the fabric of Portland’s local music scene, the dance-pop artist unexpectedly fell in love with a man from Idaho and relocated to Garden City. Lynn joined forces with production duo Yellow Trash Can to explore this surprising series of life changes on his new EP, Distracted

Known for cheekily candid lyrics combined with big dance beats, Lynn’s new EP takes a sentimental turn. It opens with the fast-paced track, “Help Me Out.” The song explores the confusion that swirls around dating and breakups. Its high tempo and repeated lyrics, “I want out, I want in, I want over again” feel like being stuck between longing and avoiding heartbreak. The next track, “I Got A Man,” keeps the same tempo while shifting to a brighter, less manic tone. Lynn takes on a soft, almost sweet delivery while describing the type of partner he’s looking for. The lyrical narrative decidedly changes from, “I want” to “I need” before moving to the question, “Are you?” and poignantly landing at the final lyric, “I’ve got a man.” While this track may seem like an easy flow through the first steps of building a relationship, its simple details are where the fuller picture emerges.

The EP’s title track dips back into full-blown dance pop. It’s a cautious celebration with lyrics that express being so in love it’s distracting, while remaining aware of your relationship's fragility. This song feels like going to a rave with an ankle brace on.

“Loud and Clear,” the EP’s next track, is a bittersweet acknowledgment of loss and forcing yourself to move forward. Combining the restless sentimentality of ‘80s synth-pop with clean yet woeful lyrics, this song cuts deep into the heart of a breakup.

The last song on the EP, “With Bells On,” is a sonic exhale. With the lyrics “I came here with bells on, and I’m leaving with bells on,” this track is a contented conclusion to an emotional journey. While the scattered feelings of euphoric love are gone, they’ve been replaced with maturity, growth, and understanding.

With Distracted, Logan Lynn has crafted a beautifully personal EP that explores the unexpected and sometimes painful journey through love, loss, and happiness. Distraction and its accompanying short film is out now through Kill Rock Stars Records.
