“THE PEPPA EFFECT” is Taking Over Our Children

Have you heard of the show Peppa Pig? Chances are if you have a toddler, if you know a toddler, or have any form of children in your home… you’ve likely heard of Peppa Pig. And if you’re like me, you hate it. Believe it or not, loud pig snorting is not my favorite thing to listen to.

However, you might actually enjoy watching Peppa Pig with your kiddos! Have you noticed anything different about your kids since they started watching? Pay close attention as they speak to you, because the latest thing is the PEPPA EFFECT - yes, children are now developing British accents like Peppa, and picking up on different slang terms from the UK! New research has shown that since the pandemic, children’s screen time has increased, and so has their style of speaking. Some parents recall their children speaking in a British accent saying things like “mummy,” “on holiday,” “give it a go,” and using the word “telly” for television.

Peppa Pig was the world's second-most in-demand children's cartoon for the 12 months ending February after 'SpongeBob SquarePants', according to data by entertainment consulting firm Parrot Analytics.

I guess there are worse things our kids could be watching, and the accent is actually pretty cute! Next time you’re watching with your kids, take a closer listen and see if they have been taken over by the Peppa Effect.
