If you’ve never heard of a Continuous Flow Intersection before, get ready to hear that term a lot. One is coming to a big intersection but we’re going to show you how to use it.

If you’ve ever traveled State St. east to west toward Star (or vice versa toward Boise), you’ve no doubt had to sit at the intersection of Eagle and State St. for what seemed like hours. Heavy traffic on both Eagle and State, especially during rush hours is about as heavy as you’ll find anywhere in the Treasure Valley.

The Idaho Transportation Department is working on a solution that they hope will improve the flow of traffic while also making it easier to access the many businesses at this intersection and lessen your wait time at the stop light.

They call it a Continuous Flow Intersection. Check out the video.

The most important thing to remember with this traffic design will be to stay in your own lane when turning, especially for those turning right while others are turning left onto the same road.

Construction is scheduled to begin Monday with most of the work happening during the off-peak hours of 10pm to 6am. Completion of the project should happen toward the end of the Summer or early Fall.

If you have questions about the project or want to be kept up to date on it’s progress, visit the Idaho Transportation Department online.
