Idahug Program Makes Idaho Transplants Feel More Welcome
We haven’t been the most welcoming with the influx of newcomers continuing to move to the Gem State.
Window stickers that say “Go Back to Cali” and the like have made those who have moved here from surrounding states feeling that while the environment is beautiful, the people are not so nice.
Two men are trying to change that narrative with the #idahug campaign. They created 250 magnets that they have been sticking on people’s cars that do not have Idaho plates.
The project encourages people to pass those magnets along to other cars that are from out of town to show a token of acceptance and love. #Idahug is also working on possibly making t-shirts and other merchandise that shows we are a welcoming state and shuts down the hate.
One of the things that I loved about moving to Idaho from Utah 6 years ago was the friendliness and acceptance that I was instantly shown. Since then I’ve seen that welcoming attitude change, especially towards Californian’s and I think this is a beautiful step in the right direction.
