IDAHO GAS PRICES SKY ROCKET JUST BEFORE 4th OF JULY WEEKEND

Idaho is consistently known as one of the MOST expensive places across the United States of America. It’s been expensive ever since we’ve started crawling out of this pandemic but WHOAH… what happened at the pumps today and why?

Last week our average price per gallon was $3.34. Today we’ve jumped up to $3.44 and it keeps on going up. We’re almost 20 cents higher than we were a month ago and it’s still going up? YES!

For those traveling for the 4th of July weekend, we here in Idaho are paying more for gasoline than we’ve paid since back in 2014 when gas was at $3.74 / gallon. I guess we can feel blessed we’re not getting hit with that price. At least not yet.

Here is the Year to Year prices in Idaho according to AAA. This shows the U.S. national average alongside the Idaho average.

YEAR U.S. IDAHO

2020 $2.18 $2.35

2019 $2.76 $2.98

2018 $2.87 $3.16

2017 $2.23 $2.57

2016 $2.27 $2.48

2015 $2.76 $3.02

2014 $3.66 $3.74

More than a quarter of a million people from Idaho are expected to be on the roads this holiday weekend which means there will be less supply and more demand. And that, of course, means higher prices.

Here’s a quote from AAA about gas prices and our behavior towards prices getting higher and higher…

“Our research shows that most Americans won’t make any adjustments to their travel plans until gas prices hit $3.50 per gallon, but given the many challenges that people have faced in the last year, we would expect the pain threshold to be even higher this time around. With ‘revenge travel’ and making up for lost time on everyone’s minds, we don’t see many plans changing based on higher pump prices.”
