It’s not new news that the Treasure Valley is experiencing a housing crisis. Mix the loss of employment with the pandemic and the skyrocketing cost of housing and many people are finding themselves unable to pay rent or mortgage a home.

According to an article on KTVB, there are many households with two people working full-time who can still not afford the cost of housing in the Boise area.

The non-profit, Jesse Tree, has seen a 300% increase in calls asking for help with rent or down payments in the last 16-months and they say they don’t see things slowing down anytime soon. In fact, Jesse Tree expects 2021 to be the busiest year they have seen yet with the continued growth in the Treasure Valley and the demand for housing.

Jesse Tree helps with rental and security deposit assistance, the eviction court process and other issues surrounding a housing crisis. They're one of the dozens of agencies in the Treasure Valley that provides aid to people experiencing a housing crisis. Our Path Home has launched a housing crisis hotline, 208-336-HOME (4663). The hotline is made up of a team of experts that will listen to people's housing issues and direct them to the best organization to help with their needs.

If you find yourself in trouble, don’t feel ashamed. This can happen to anyone and times have been and continue to be very tough for some. Remember the housing crisis hotline at 208-336-HOME (4663).
