How To View The International Space Station From The Treasure Valley
Does anyone else get frustrated when you hear about “the best meteor shower of the year” – only to walk outside, stare up at the sky and not see anything?
If you’re a big space nerd like me, then you’re gonna geek out over this!
Did you know the International Space Station circles the Earth 15 times each day?
That means it can frequently be seen from right here in the 208 (as long as there aren’t any pesky clouds obstructing your view) & there are some awesome resources to help you avoid wasting your time staring upwards like a goofball.
The first is a free app called Skyview Lite. All you need to do with this app is point it up towards the sky and it’ll identify practically every star, planet and constellation in the sky. It’ll also help you find the International Space Station!
The other site that is a huge help is astroviewer.net. It shows you the exact location of the ISS at all times & also shows you it’s path so you can determine which direction you should be looking!
When you spot it, it’ll look like a really fast airplane screaming across the sky (it travels 4.76 miles per second)…so cool!
