How do YOU get rid of stuff?

Garage - Purge - Moving Sale!

Garage - Purge - Moving Sale!

Ugh! We are in the process of downsizing, unfeathering our nest and moving into a smaller house with less land to take care of. So, this week we are getting ready for a garage/moving sale from 8am-2pm…which means the early birds will start circling our house at about 6:50 am.

Kevin grew up with parents who had a tradition of either going to or hosting garage/yard/estate sales/flea markets every weekend. If his parents weren’t shopping at a resale event they were hosting their own. Kevin looks forward to setting up our garage sale shop and visiting with folks when they stop by.

My job is to go through the house and pull inventory. Sounds easy! Except it’s not. I have sentimental memories tied to lots of stuff…or maybe I remember how much we originally spent on something and I just can’t wrap my head around letting someone else have it for just spare change or a few dollars. This creates a real quandary for me because I really want to get rid of stuff and I detest clutter.

Keep? Toss? Donate? Just one of my piles waiting to be judged and sorted though…How do you get rid of stuff? Do you have a system? How do you get over feeling sentimentally attached to or nostalgic about an item? I know it feels very libera…

Keep? Toss? Donate? Just one of my piles waiting to be judged and sorted though…

How do you get rid of stuff? Do you have a system? How do you get over feeling sentimentally attached to or nostalgic about an item?

I know it feels very liberating and freeing to get rid of stuff…I just haven’t found a way streamline it and make it as carefree and easy as the Queens of those Clutter Busting shows make it out to be on tv.

When it comes to getting rid of “stuff” do you have any real world, you’ve done it and it really works, tips or tricks on how to “Let it GO?!”

If you want to check out our garage sale this Saturday from 8am-2pm here is the map to our place in Meridian. However, you won’t find me out in the garage because I have a tendency to start “shopping” and pulling stuff back into the house.
