Do you believe in ghosts? These Idaho buildings may convince you or reaffirm what you already know to be true. Yes, some of the most haunted places on the continent are right here in your own backyard. If you’re looking for a REAL scare this Halloween season, you might want to check out one of these places.

THE BATES MOTEL IN COEUR D’ ALENE

You thought this just existed in the movies? How wrong you are. This hotel came long before the movie Psycho hit the screen and many believe it’s the inspiration behind that blockbuster hit.

Originally this little place was called The Roadway Inn which served as an officers barracks before, during, and after WWII. Eventually a man named Randy Bates bought the place and named it The Bates Motel. Those who stay there say there’s plenty of paranormal activity. Most of that is reported from rooms one and three. Guests say they often feel like they’re being watched, there’s cold spots, strange noises, lights that turn on and off, and things mysteriously move around.

OWYHEE PLAZA IN BOISE

This building has been around since 1910. Guests and staff members agree that this is one of the most haunted hot spots in Idaho. Sightings of a female spirit are often reported. Those that try to talk with the apparition get nothing in return. She simply moves on and disappears but it’s more than plenty to give you the chills.

The second you walk into this place, you know it’s haunted. If you haven’t taken a tour, you need to put this at the top of your bucket list because this is a place like no other here in Idaho.

Over 10,000 convicts have passed through this building in the last 150 years. 10 executions and more than 100 other deaths have taken place here. You can take your pick at which spots are the most haunted but the one that intrigues most is 5 House. That’s where a man named Raymond Allen Snowden was executed. Snowden was known as Idaho’s version of Jack The Ripper. Many believe his soul haunts the prison even now after it’s been shut down for almost 50 years.

Snowden’s not the only one haunting this place. Tourist often report hearing weird, ghostly footsteps walking through the different hallways. There’s also been many reports of different voices throughout the prison. Some people walking through have felt like they’ve been touched or even pushed by spirits.
