Good Day for Music

During the spring of 1972, a Paul Anka composed song was on the charts that was written for Annette Funicello. Twelve years later, the LAPD was called.

Donny Osmond

Puppy Love

Composed by Paul Anka in 1960 that was written for Annette Funicello, who were dating at the time. The original version sat right behind the number one song, Percy Faith’s ‘Theme from A Summer Place.’

Flash to the spring of 1972 where the song makes its return to the pop charts when Donny Osmond recorded his version that made it into the Top five in the United States.

Los Angeles DJ, Robert W. Morgan, locked himself in the radio station booth and played the song back to back for 90 minuets. This disturbed listeners so much, thinking that terrorists had taken over the station, called the LAPD who had to break into the studio. When they realized that it was nothing more than a publicity stunt, the police officers left without making any arrests.
