Carly’s 5 Good Reads for the New Year
Calling all book worms! If you need something new to read in the new year, these are my suggestions. We’ve got a little bit of everything, from a great documentary, to a murder mystery, a little romance, and my favorite new cookbook! If you’ve read anything great lately please add to this list in the comments below!
“Going There” by Katie Couric : A great autobiography from one of the most iconic female journalists of our time. You get a glimpse into the life of Katie Couric before she ever became famous, inequality in the workforce, and you really feel like you get to know the person behind the news desk. I couldn’t put it down and several of my family members have read it and rave about it as well.
“Then She Was Gone” by Lisa Jewell ; A bizarre murder mystery that my sister highly recommends. She reads a lot, so when she tells me something is good I believe her! I just ordered the audio version today and I can’t wait to hear the story. She told me that there isn’t any gore, no sexual abuse, just a bizarre story that makes you want to discuss it with your friends.
“The Gap Between Us”: If you loved “If Untold” by Norelle Smith you’ll love this book as well. Great character development, relatability, and the predicaments that love can put us in. This book will have you turning page after page. It’s available as an audio version as well if you don’t have a lot of time to read.
“Once Upon a Chef” by Jennifer Segal. I use this cookbook constantly! Some of my personal favorites are her baked ziti, blacked grilled fish tacos, and chicken sheet pan meal. Oh, and my kids rave about the beefy chili mac. I’ve honestly loved every recipe I’ve tried.
“A Little Bit of Buddah” I’ve been incorporating meditation and yoga into my daily life and knowing very little about Buddah beforehand I found this a very interesting, simple read, that leaves you more focused on the things that really matter and filled with more gratitude.
