BSU’s Oldest Die Hard Fan Dies On Season Opener Day

92-year-old Bernice Thomson passed away this morning around 4 o’clock and how fitting is it that this beautiful soul who was ALL IN when it came to the BSU Broncos passed on the same day their season-opening game would kick-off.

Bernice has been a die-hard fan since the 1960s. She’s had four children graduate from BSU, and I can’t remember a single home game that she was not at.

She LOVED hanging out with other fans in the tailgate area in the BSU parking lot. Bernice would tell all sorts of stories about incredible BSU moments. Some were about players, some about coaches, some about herself, but most of those stories were about the team. The team she loved so much.

Just before Bernice passed away early this morning, she had one last message to share. It’s a simple one but one I think a lot of us can appreciate. She whispered, “Go Broncos!”

Thank you Bernice for making football fun. Thank you for being happy and positive and loving a game and a team so much. And thank you for setting such an incredible example to the rest of us BSU fans. Tonight you’ll watch this game from up above and I would imagine the view is better than ever. Rest In Peace Bernice.
