As Child Abuse Cases Rise in the Treasure Valley Here Are Some Resources If You Are Struggling
It’s undeniable that the COVID-19 pandemic has brought on added stress for all of us. One of the biggest challenges for parents is that fact that kids have been out of school or perhaps daycare for nearly a year. Round the clock parenting while juggling work, perhaps a loss of income, and isolation can leave even mentally sound people a little unstable.
Dr. Kendra Bowman with St. Luke’s says child abuse cases in number and severity are on the rise and parents are lashing out because they can’t handle the stress of the pandemic.
The good news is there are resources you can reach out to before you do something you will regret forever.
There is a HelpNow crisis line that parents and caregivers can call to get help. Anyone can call or text the HelpNow line at 986-867-1073 and 866-947-5186 (toll free) to speak with trained counselors or be connected to resources. The line is staffed from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and callers can leave a message to be returned the next day.
Parents who feel like they are overwhelmed need to realize they are not alone. Don’t be ashamed to get help if you need it.
