A KOOL Day for Music
Radio listeners were confused about a song that was on the charts October 1966. The vocalist was so close in sounding like another singer, that it might have actually helped the record climb up the charts.
Los Bravos
Black is Black
Los Bravos was a Spanish quintet that used the talents of a German lead singer - Mike Kogel. Formed in 1965, they were one of the few rock groups that started from a non-English speaking country to reach international fame.
Kogel’s voice sounded so close to Gene Pitney’s that many listeners thought the record was his next song.
‘Black Is Black’ did better in the U.K. that it did here in the States, but it cemented Los Bravos as an international group selling over a million singles worldwide.
Sadly, their next single garnered moderate success in England and didn’t make an impact on the American charts.
