5 Years After Closing, Could Skinny Dipper Hot Springs Re-Open?!

Five years ago the Bureau of Land Management shut down Skinny Dipper Hot Springs in Boise County after visitors neglected the area, leaving trash, discarded towels, and even human waste behind. Pair that with a bunch of car break-ins, some serious falls, and even a homicide, and you can easily see why the pipes that once routed the hot water have been disconnected and the big concrete pool has been ripped out.

As the hot springs shut down in 2016, an article on KTVB says the plan was to consider re-opening Skinny Dipper Hot Springs after rehabilitating the area for five years. That time is now. The worries around re-opening the hot springs is how do we keep Skinny Dipper from becoming what it was? Suggestions have been tossed out such as patrolling and policing the area, as well as regulating alcohol, but the BLM says they don’t have enough people to do that right now.

A survey is supposed to go out soon to gauge what community members want, and anyone with an idea is welcome to bring it forward.

Kirkham hot springs was recently shut down for similar problems, so what can we do to keep our beautiful land clean and safe? Do you have any ideas?
