Boise police warn of a recent email scam:

Recently scam victims reported receiving an email from Best Buy confirming a renewal for services.  Since the victims were not aware of any services they had signed up for, they called a phone number provided in the email.  Once on the phone with the representative, the victim is led through a refund process where they give remote access to their computer.  During the encounter the representative claims too much money was refunded and askes for the money to be returned.  The victims are told to return the money through purchasing cryptocurrency and wire transferring thousands of dollars.

If you receive an email for services you did not subscribe to, do not call any phone numbers provided and look up a published number for the company on their website instead.

Also be aware of wiring money and buying gift cards or cryptocurrency as a form of payment as these are commonly used by criminals to steal money in scams.

If you are a scam victim, please report it to the police.

If you have information about suspicious activity or you have information about a crime contact Crime Stoppers of Southwest Idaho and you could earn a reward of up to $1000.00 if your tip leads to a felony arrest!
