Rick & Carly’s Kids : 5-Year Old Weiser Girl Loses Mom and Battles Brain Cancer

5-year-old Danni Harris is one of the brightest lights you will ever meet. Her sweet smile hides the fact that she lost her Mother very suddenly last year and now she is battling a rare cancerous brain tumor.

Danni’s dad, John, has been left to raise Danni and her sister alone after his wife and their Mother passed away from a pulmonary embolism after a routine ACL surgery last summer.

A few months ago John noticed something wasn’t quite right with Danni. She couldn’t hit a softball the way that she normally could and her eye didn’t track as usual, so John took her into the doctor. The news he received was that Danni was battling a very rare cancerous germ cell tumor behind her eye. She now has to go through chemo therapy and other cancer treatments to hopefully shrink the tumor.

Losing her hair has obviously been very difficult for Danni, who loves princesses, but she’s had the support of her family and her community behind her. Danni’s 14-year-old sister also shaved her head and her father sits unwavering by her side.

We know that we can’t change this uphill battle that Danni and her family are facing, but we wanted to let them know that we care and that their community is behind them, so Danni is our Rick & Carly’s Kid for July.

Rick & Carly’s Kids is a program we started 4 1/2 years ago to help shine light on the various struggles that families and children here in the Treasure Valley face. Some of the struggles are big, some of the struggles may seem small, but they all matter and we want these kids to know that they are not alone.
