Thanks to the invention of online streaming services, we now have an escape from all of the political noise. If you’ve had your fill of the chaos, here are some cool shows you should check out.

We are nearing the end of what will no doubt be written in human history as arguably the weirdest year on record. The madness has been a constant in our daily lives since February with everything coming to a head on November 3rd. If you’re anything like me and are absolutely exhausted with all of it, here are some shows you should check out so you can…check out.

THE HAUNTING OF BLY MANOR: NETFLIX

Many believe that The Haunting of Bly Manor is a sequel to 2019’s The Haunting of Hill House. While similar in texture, story line and feel; they are quite different from one another if for no other reason that they are based on books written by two different authors.

The Haunting of Bly Manor tells the story of Dani Clayton who is hired as an au pair to keep watch of two young and very wealthy children. Dani’s past is filled with terrible circumstances as is the past of the children who’s parents died tragically. When the three intersect at Bly Manor, things get weird. If you’re not ready to let go of spooky season give this one a whirl.

THE HUNTERS: AMAZON PRIME

Based in 1970’s America, this brutal and at times comedic action drama will suck you in from the opening minutes. Check out Jordan Peele’s The Hunters. The premise: Operation Paperclip was a success and throngs of Nazi scientists, politicians and doctors live among us.

Meyer Offerman (Al Pacino), a Polish Holocaust survivor and philanthropist has assembled a crack team of Nazi hunters. Each member of the team has a specialty and a personality that compliments the other members of the team. Be careful with this one. It’s 10 episodes of brutal violence with depictions of concentration camp atrocities that will leave a mark. Don’t watch this one with the family.

THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY: AMAZON PRIME

If you’ve read the comics then this is nothing new for you. However if you have not you’re in for quite a ride!

In 1989, 43 children are born under strange circumstances. A billionaire buys 7 of the children from their mothers and raises them to be crime fighters. Oh, it should be noted that they all have super powers. Each child has a unique ability. The character known as Five is a fan favorite due to his potty mouth and amazing one liners and insults.

Time travel, science fiction, an incredible story line and impeccable acting on the part of the cast puts this one in my top 5. Plus, there are a couple seasons to keep you busy.

So those are just a few of my favorites, here are some others of note that you might want to check out.

  • The Mandalorian Season 2 on Disney Plus

  • Unsolved Mysteries Seasons 1 and 2 on Netflix

  • Schitt’s Creek on Netflix

  • Mindhunters Seasons 1 and 2 on Netflix

  • The Social Dilemma on Netflix

  • My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman on Netflix

  • Ozarks Seasons 1 through 3 on Netflix

  • The Boys on Amazon Prime

  • The Man in The High Castle on Amazon Prime

That should keep you busy for a while.
