OPEN LETTER TO I-84 DRIVERS
I don’t know what’s going on with drivers on I-84 but I’m scared. Really scared. Like “I Think I’m Gonna Die” type of scared.
We often hear about how bad drivers are in California or other areas across the U.S. but let’s get real here. We, here in Idaho are no better. And when I say WE, I mean the idiots that put my life and my family’s life in jeopardy every time they hit the gas. So let’s get to it. What am I talking about? Why all the hate?? I’m going to list off everything I’ve seen over the past week on my short trips from Meridian to Nampa every day and you tell me I’m wrong.
I’m going to start with you ladies. Love ya BUT the makeup thing??? Come on. If you’re in the passenger seat, no problem but that’s not what I’m seeing. We thought texting was dangerous while driving… how about a woman looking at nothing but her FACE while applying every aspect of makeup on God’s Green Earth? The eye liner, the lipstick, facial whatever that stuff is, and more. As I watch this transformation evolve there’s sudden braking, swerving, speeding or how about SLOWING? Yeah. Because they’re not paying attention they’ll sometimes slow down to 35 to 40 mph on the freeway. Oh, and then when they get a honk from someone they look around like, “what’s their problem? That can’t possibly be directed towards me, right?”
Guys, don’t think you’re off the hook. I see the same guy weaving in and out of traffic at speeds that have to be close to triple digits daily in his VW Jetta. I’m not sure why this guy’s in such a hurry but whoah! It’s like watching some kind of video game and I find myself holding my breath every time he buzzes by because I know it’s just a matter of time before there’s some kind of side swipe or worse, some snow ball effect pile up that who knows how bad it could end.
I saw this guy pulled over the other day. Shocker! I thought, “maybe he’ll learn and slow down now.” I know it’d be for selfish reasons. He just doesn’t want to get that ticket but NOOOOOO… the next day it was the exact same thing!
I see families, kids, parents, grandma and grandpa, all of us have to take I-84. Can’t we all be just a little more considerate? How many times have you seen those flashing lights on the side. Yes, the backup traffic drives me nuts but more than that, my heart goes out to those involved in those accidents. Ruining their day is the least of their problems. I’ve seen bodies covered in sheets, young teenagers slumped over with their face in their hands because they have no idea what they’ve just done, and people frantically trying to pull others from vehicles absolutely demolished from front to back.
I’m simply asking, not just for me and my family. I’m asking for you too. Think about what you’re doing while driving. Wait to eat that burger. Don’t shave while driving. Don’t text while driving. Don’t drive with your feet because your hands are pre-occupied with who knows what. The kids, the radio, slapping your husband up side the head, whatever. Just DRIVE!
