A Good Day for Music….1979

Top of the music charts for 1979

The Knack

My Sharona

A song that helped bridged the gap between mainstream rock and roll to punk-rock, but still maintained elements to the 1960’s pop music style.

For those with inquiring minds; yes, there was an actual girlfriend who’s name was Sharona. The song was written by the band’s lead singer, Doug Feiger. Doug was dating another girl at the time when he met Sharona Alperin and knew that he wanted to spend all of his time with her. Its not really clear if Doug wrote the song to impress Sharona, or the song was written after their first meeting, but the song reached number one on the pop charts where it stayed at the top for 6 weeks in November of 1979.
