Have You Had This Iconic Idaho Food Staple?

Anybody that knows me, knows that eating is probably my top hobby. Ok, forget I said probably, it IS my top hobby. Most things I like to do revolve around food. I enjoy cooking food, eating food, ordering food…you name it, I love it.

One of my favorite things to do when it comes to food is introducing friends and family to some of our favorite restaurants and local dishes. I feel like its one of the best ways to show someone what your home is all about.

So when Lauren’s mom and sisters came into town, we HAD to make sure they experienced legendary Idaho Finger Steaks and the world famous Ice Cream Potato from Westside Drive-In. Westside Drive-In is a Treasure Valley icon that hasn’t seemed to change one bit over all these years. My dad remembers going there as a child, and now Lauren and I are taking our son to the classic diner. It’s really come full circle.

The two most iconic dishes at Westside have to be the Finger Steaks, and the Ice Cream Potato. When we first told Lauren’s family about it, they seemed very confused. “Wait, is the ice cream made out of potatoes?!” Don’t worry, its still regular ice cream, but being able to eat it in baked potato shape makes it that much better. Long story short, they fell in LOVE with the dessert and of course the finger steaks.

So if you just moved to the Gem State, make sure you check finger steaks and an ice cream potato off your list before all of your boxes get unpacked. You’ll be glad you did.
