Idaho Man Dies In Utah Marathon
22-year-old Hayden Holman was strong, fit and just two minutes from the finish line at the St. George, Utah marathon when everything went wrong leaving his new wife and his family asking why and wondering how this could possibly happen.
Hayden grew up in Idaho Falls. He was always involved with sports, fun, and pretty much anything that got him out of the house moving forward in his faith and his life.
At 19-years-old Hayden ventured out and served a two-year mission in Montreal, Canada for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He immediately enrolled at BYU-Idaho in Rexburg and married his sweetheart, Charlotte.
There was absolutely no indication of anything wrong and medical experts are still trying to figure out what happened. Hayden’s stepmother Karin Holman had this to say…
“He called us when he was two minutes from the finish line to make sure someone was there to take a picture but he never showed up.”
I can’t imagine the worry, the fear, and then the realization of what had happened as Hayden’s family waited and waited and waited.
Hayden collapsed just a bit before the finish line and emergency personnel immediately responded with CPR but could not revive him. An ambulance was on the scene quickly transporting him to the hospital where he soon passed away.
Hayden’s funeral will be held on Oct. 11, at Coltrin Mortuary & Crematory in Idaho Falls. My heart aches for this family who understandably has so many questions and somehow has to move forward through their grief. Thoughts and Prayers to the entire family and to everyone that knew this young man.
