If you haven’t noticed, Victoria’s Secret is completely reinventing themselves and I couldn’t be more on board with these changes.

Gone are the days of the beyond perfect Victoria’s Secret Angels and in come 18 real women like Idaho’s very own, Celilo Miles, who has had a lot of modeling experience but who also isn’t waif thin. Even cooler, Celilo has a job as a Nez Perce Tribe Wildland Firefighter. She gave up on modeling after the death of her brother and the beginning of the pandemic in 2020. The 27-year-old also says she feels “most at home” fighting fires.

Celilo is originally from Lapwai, Idaho and says she grew up hunting, fishing, and picking huckleberries. She tells Vogue that she was scouted as a model at 12-years-old, but immediately told to lose weight.

She applied for the Victoria’s Secret job at the encouragement of a casting agent, but didn’t hear back for a month and figured she didn’t get the gig. Then one night she received a life-changing phone call that said she was going to be one of 18 models in the Love Cloud campaign.

Of the dream job she says,

“When I started modeling I tried to reshape my body into a size I couldn’t sustain because I thought that was what I had to do. Even moving to New York, when I missed my family and culture, was trying to fit into a mold, so it’s wonderful to be able to do something where it doesn’t matter what size I am or where I’m living. This was about character and what I could bring to the table as a person. We’ve reached this incredible point where we no longer have to adhere to the rules set by the dominant culture; we, as women, can be exactly who we are.”

To keep up with Celilo’s journey you can follow her Instagram page. Huge congrats girl! We are so proud of you!!
