I-84 Back Open After 100 Vehicle Crash
This stretch of I-84 is notoriously known for bad weather, bad accidents, and lots of shutdowns. Yesterday afternoon we had all three and in the worst way.
It only takes one vehicle to start a chain reaction that ends up just like this. 100 or more cars and trucks slamming into guard rails, each other, and snow banks alongside I-84.
Both eastbound and westbound lanes of I-84 were shut down yesterday near milepost 230 just about 20 miles east of Pendleton, Oregon. They’re now officially back open with traffic running smoothly.
Bad weather and icy conditions are the cause of what wasn’t just one BIG accident. Many different accidents occurred with the largest being one with about 15 to 20 vehicles involved.
Busses came in to help ship people out of the area so that officials could quickly investigate and clear things up so that traffic could start back up.
With more than 100 vehicles involved, we know there are probably some injuries but we do not know how many or to what extent at this time. Fortunately, there have been no fatalities reported so far. We’ll keep you posted as more information comes in.
*** Huge thank you to the Oregon State Police for getting this cleared up as quickly and safely as possible.
