High Levels of Ecoli Found at Quinn’s Pond
With triple digit heat hitting the Treasure Valley this week, a dip in Quinn’s Pond seems perfect. I took my kids to Quinn’s Pond on Monday and we had a blast paddle boarding and swimming around. Now the City of Boise is warning residents that high levels of Ecoli have been found at Quinn’s Pond and Esther Simplot Park. Warning signs have been posted that Ecoli levels exceed state standards and people should swim at their own risk.
Quinn’s pond has definitely seen a spike in visitors amid the triple digit heat and according to an article on KTVB, water tests are done weekly from April through September.
So far there are no reports of anyone getting sick from the water, but visitors are encouraged to refrain from swimming. If you do choose to swim, avoid swallowing water, and you are encouraged to shower before and after.
This has been a common problem over the years at Quinn’s Pond. The city is working to get additional water rights to intake more freshwater from the Boise River but that’s not going to happen this season.
Bottom line, swim at your own risk. We want everyone to stay safe and healthy this summer!
