Deejays Live In Vehicle For Four Days To Get Pets Adopted

Two local deejays took on a very interesting endeavor this past week, all in an effort to help close to 100 pets needing homes at the Idaho Humane Society find new families. They LIVED in a car for FOUR straight days!

Rick & Carly host the morning show on 96.1 Bob FM and Rick also has hosting duties on Boise’s Best Country 101.9 The Bull. On Wednesday afternoon, the two deejays kicked off 96 Pets In 96 Hours. They vowed to live, eat, breathe, and broadcast live from inside a Subaru at Treasure Valley Subaru for 96 straight hours urging listeners to stop by and adopt a pet from the Idaho Humane Society.

There are no guarantees throwing a challenge like this out there but failure was NOT an option for these two. Day after day Rick & Carly would crack the microphone with their humorous banter discussing whose foot was in the other’s face, who forgot their toothbrush, backaches, backseat sleeping, and HOT BOXING??? Yeah. They pretty much discussed it all BUT the message was clear and hit hard. 96 dogs, cats, birds, rats, bunnies, and more needed someone to step up and bring them into their homes.

Listeners immediately responded with 29 pets adopted on the first day. Others stopped by donating money, sharing stories about their pets, and taking pictures with two deejays who continued their adventure all from a Subaru. The energy was high, positive, and it looked as if this goal would be no problem UNTIL… the next day.

Only eight pets were adopted on Thursday putting Rick & Carly’s quest in jeopardy. But that was short-lived. Yes, it was tight but after four long days in that car, Rick and Carly finally got the call Saturday evening from the Idaho Humane Society. The call saying they had adopted out exactly 96 pets. Rick and Carly had this message for their listeners…

“Thank you Treasure Valley. You did it! Because of you 96 little orphans now have a home. And today there are 96 families here in the Treasure Valley that just got a whole lotta LOVE. We love you all.”

Oh. And one more thing. Rick & Carly also got a whole lotta love. They brought home a new little friend. Her name is Penelope.
