A Good Day for Music
David Soul
Don’t Give Up On Us, Baby
In late March, 1977, Disco was still a thing on the music charts and the world was only a few weeks away from the space opera called Star Wars.
Most people would recognize David Soul for his portrayal as the streetwise detective, David Starski (or was it Kenneth Hutchinson?) on TV’s Starski and Hutch in the 70’s.
Before becoming an actor, he started out as a folk-pop musician in New York. But soon found that his career was floundering. In desperation, David sent a photograph of himself to the top New York entertainment talent agency. He did find some roles, but it wasn’t until he auditioned for the ‘buddy-cop’ TV series where he found his success.
His group of fans grew and was clamoring for more of David Soul so the TV studio, wanted to cash in on his fame, gave him songs to record for an album. ‘Don’t Give Up on Us, Baby’ became an international hit record.
Although, David is considered to be a one-hit wonder in the States, he had more charting songs on the U.K. charts.
