City of Boise Updates Animal Welfare Code
As of June 7th, 2021, an updated Animal Welfare Code in Boise has made changes to the city’s animal cruelty regulations to include previous “hot car” laws.
Up until Monday June 7th, the act of leaving an animal unattended in a car in the summertime left concerned passersby with few options to save the struggling animal, save for calling the police and having water ready for when (if) the animal was released in time. That all changed on Monday when the City of Boise updated their Animal Welfare codes to include the following.
Prohibits leaving animals unattended in cars under weather conditions that endanger their wellbeing.
Creates a “Good Samaritan” immunity from penalties, damages, and civil liability for those who rescue animals from life-threatening conditions. Individual must first dial 911.
Creates a new section to prohibit the sale of non-shelter dogs and cats at retail pet stores as well as the transfer of such animals on public property.
Amends the role and processes for the animal enforcement agency.
In a statement on the City of Boise’s website, City Council Member TJ Thomson stated;
