A Good Day for Music

One of the anxieties that any band will go through when they are first starting out is what their name should be. You want it to be memorable. Some will change it. Often.

Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band

Against The Wind

The rock and roll band from Detroit started out being known ‘Bob Seger and the Last Heard.’ Then they changed their name to ‘The Bob Seger System’ but neither of those names stood out with music consumers. It was the one more name change that made them a household name.

Bob wrote blue-collar songs. Including this song that was released in February of 1980 that showed promise.

In interviews, Bob said that there was a line in the song that bothered him grammatically. There was nothing wrong with the lyric, it just sounded weird so he left it in. Later he felt justified when other songwriters used the same line in their songs. Its the line that goes “Wish I didn’t know now, what I didn’t know then.”

Recorded for their eleventh studio album with Glenn Frey from The Eagles on backing vocals and was one of Bob’s biggest hit song.
